Export and international supply

Buying machined parts from India, without the usual surprises

The piece price is rarely what decides an offshore sourcing decision. Landed cost, an honest lead time and whether anyone answers the email are what decide it, so those come first here.

The group already ships

Forty countries, and the support that comes after

Versatile Equipments, Anicon’s parent, has been building foundry and sand testing equipment since 1967 and supplies customers in more than forty countries. Exporting is not something being attempted for the first time on your order.

That matters for a reason beyond logistics. A group that has installed and then supported its own machines abroad has had to answer for them years later, which is a different discipline from shipping a box and hoping.

The practical questions

Answered before you ask them

Incoterms
Tell us which term you work to and the quotation is built on it. Quoting ex-works against a buyer who expects delivered is how a price looks competitive and then is not.
Packaging
Specified to the part and the journey rather than to a standard. Where timber packing and heat treatment marking are required for your destination, say so and it is planned in.
Documentation
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin as standard. Mill and foundry certificates tied to the heat number, dimensional reports and hardness results on request.
Lead time
Quoted as a date, with the material lead time separated from the machining time so you can see which part of it is ours to compress.
Payment
Terms agreed at order stage. For a first order most buyers prefer something staged, which is reasonable in both directions.
Communication
India Standard Time is five and a half hours ahead of UK, and business is conducted in English. Same-day replies are normal on anything sent before the afternoon.

Where this works, and where it does not

Worth knowing early rather than at the audit

Good fit

Fluid power and valve components, precision turned and milled parts, specialty alloy work in small quantities, sub-assemblies where the coordination is the real cost.

Component families

Also good

Second sourcing an existing part where you already have a drawing and a history, and want a supplier who will hold the tolerance rather than discover it.

How it is controlled

Ask first

Very high volume commodity turning, where freight and duty may erase the difference. We will say so rather than quote for the sake of it.

Not us

Flight hardware needing AS9100, which is not held. Ground support equipment, tooling and non-flight items are a different conversation.

Materials and certificates

A first response is targeted within one working day, including the response that we are not the right shop for the part. For a buyer eight time zones away, an early no is worth more than a slow maybe.

Send the drawing

A straight answer inside a working day

A 2D or 3D file, the quantity and the date you need it. You will get a considered reply within one working day, including the reply that we are not the right shop for the part, which is worth knowing early. A mutual NDA goes out first if you would rather.
